We have launched a new documentation website. If you're using Enterpise Edition 10 (or higher) or Express/Business Edition 2.4.1 (or higher), visit this page.
We have moved to a new documentation platform. This section is no longer supported. For the up-to-date information, see RDS licensing for multiple bots.
With Intelligent Automation Cloud Business, you can run multiple bots on one server concurrently*. While the software allows for a number of bots to be run concurrently, it's important to make sure you have the right infrastructure, OS, and Microsoft Licenses to be able to benefit from it. Read the article below to get to know system requirements, an RDS CAL licensing model and how-to for RDS License activation.
* Intelligent Automation Cloud Express allows one concurrent bot only
To run multiple bots on one machine, your Window Server OS* requires one of the following versions:
* you may also need RDS Per User CALs for your Windows Server. See What are RDS CALs? below
** we recommend running no more than 16 bots per Window Server concurrently to ensure smooth performance
*** each bot would need at least 1 CPU and 2 GB RAM
To use the Windows Server OS and RDS to manage bot sessions, you need to purchase licenses. Each bot on the server should have a user CAL. RDS CALs are installed on the RD licensing server that keeps track of these licenses. When a bot tries to connect to the RD session host server, the server checks if the bot has a CAL. Follow the link to read more.
Intelligent Automation Cloud Business needs RDS Per User CALs and NOT RDS Per Device CALs.
You can purchase CALs for Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2, or 2016 from a reseller. To estimate budget needed use MS Store.
Note that each bot needs a license for each application it uses, i.e. Microsoft Office.
You can run the Intelligent Automation Cloud Business trial version with multiple concurrent bots without purchasing RDS CALs. The installer will activate on the 120th day of RDS grace period and create multiple bots automatically.
Be aware that you would need to purchase RDS CALs to stay compliant after grace period expiration.
