Downloading RPA Express

To download RPA Express, follow the instructions below.

  1. Open the WorkFusion website.
  2. Click Get free RPA in the top-right corner, or select Products > Robotic Process Automation Express – RPA Express.

  3. Click Download now.
  4. Fill in the registration form and click Submit.

    You are automatically redirected to the download page, and RPAExpressInstaller.exe (18 MB) is downloaded automatically

All the required components are downloaded during installation.

Preconditions

  1. Make sure your computer meets System Requirements.
  2. Stop your running programs.
  3. Check if automatic Windows updates are not running at the moment. Otherwise, they should be paused.
  4. Run the installer as Administrator.
  5. In case installation includes a Server package, make sure you open ports 15100, 15110, 15280 for external usage inside your network (if you plan to use it on other computers).
  6. Make sure that ports 15410-15423, 15444, 15580, 15306 are closed to any external interaction.

Installing RPA Express

Before RPA Express installation, make sure your machine meets System Requirements.

The installation procedure described below refers to RPA Express 2.3.0. To install earlier versions, see here.

Due to network issues or firewalls, the download of additional packages may not be successful sometimes.

If download cannot be performed, the following dialog window appears.

To fix the problem, do as follows.

  1. Click the download mirror link to get redirected to this page.
  2. To download the full package, click one of the available Click here links.

    Full package size is about 2 GB.

    The mirror link is a Dropbox-based file share, which may be blocked in your corporate network. In this case, escalate to rpaexpress@workfusion.com to figure out the way to get the file

  3. Once the package is downloaded, right-click the compressed folder and select Extract all from the context menu.
  4. By default, the compressed files extract in the same location as the zipped folder. Click Browse to specify another location.
  5. To proceed, press Extract.
  6. To launch RPAExpressInstaller.exe, right-click the file and select Run as administrator.

To install RPA Express, follow the steps below.

  1. Run RPAExpressInstaller.exe.

    If you have an earlier version of RPA Express installed, the installer prompts you to update your current version. In this case, refer to the How to Update RPA Express.

  2. To start installation process, you must accept the License Agreement. Click License Agreement to view it. 
  3. Read the License Agreement carefully. Use the scroll bar or press the page down key.
  4. To accept, check I accept the terms in the License Agreement and press Next.

    The checkbox I agree to share usage analytics, that can help WorkFusion to improve its products is optional to check.

  5. Enter the email you used when registering for RPA Express.

Selecting Licensing Model

Licensing Models

  • RPA Express Starter is a completely free product for individual use only, with no trial period, no license generated, and less system requirements. Within the licensing model, WorkFusion Studio is installed, no server components are provided.

  • RPA Express Pro Business Trial – during the trial period of 30 days, you can use all Pro features available with RPA Express Pro Business. After the trial period expires, a user can either subscribe and continue RPA Express Pro Business, as a fully-featured enterprise product, or continue working in Control Tower with the limited features available in RPA Express Starter.
  • RPA Express Pro Business includes the whole set of server components together with WorkFusion Studio, thus enabling users to automate complex use cases, manage multiple bots, and run automation unattended at scale.

While there can be multiple users on a server, only one user is able to run RPA Express at a time.

Selecting Installation Type

RPA Express Installation Types

  • Development Workstation (Free) – installation of WorkFusion Studio for developing and testing RPA automation.
  • Development Workstation and Server (Free + Premium Features) – installation of WorkFusion Studio and all server components to manage multiple bots and running automation unattended at scale.

Option 1. Development Workstation (Free)

  1. Development Workstation (Free) is selected by default. Click Next to proceed.
  2. On the RPA Express Administrator Credentials screen, enter Administrator username and password that will be used to centrally manage your automations.

    Pick any username and password at your choice, though observe the following requirements.

    – The username should be 5 to 20 characters long and contain lowercase Latin letters and digits. Special symbols are not allowed.

    – The password should be 8 to 20 characters long and contain Latin letters and digits. Special symbols are not allowed.


  3. Click Next to proceed.

If you need to install server components later, see Changing RPA Express Setup.

Option 2. Development Workstation and Server

  1. On the Installation Type screen, select Development Workstation and Server and click Next.


  2. Enter the number of bots to be run on Server. To select multiple bots, you need:

    1. Windows Server: 2012, 2012 R2, or 2016

    2. user account created for each additional bot

    3. 2 GB of RAM for each additional bot (refer to System Requirements)

      If the machine has non-server OS, you can install 1 bot only.

  3. Enter Administrator username and password that will be used to centrally manage RPA Express components, users, and automations.

    Pick any username and password at your choice, though observe the following requirements.

    – The username should be 5 to 20 characters long and contain lowercase Latin letters and digits. Special symbols are not allowed.

    – The password should be 8 to 20 characters long and contain Latin letters and digits. Special symbols are not allowed.

    The credentials entered at this step are used to log in to Control Tower, WorkSpace, and File Storage.

Finalizing Installation

  1. Set the destination folder for RPA Express installation and click Install.

  2. Accept a security prompt by clicking Yes.

    The window above appears in case the current Windows user does not have Administrator rights. User Access Control (UAC) is set to notify the user when applications try to make changes to a computer.

    The installation process will start.

    Tip

    While installation is performed, you can watch a short intro to get familiar with RPA Express main features. Click on a video thumbnail on the installer screen to open it in your browser.

  3. (Optional) Restart the installer.

    RDS Licensing Activation

    During the Development Workstation and Server installation, RDS licensing is activated automatically. Depending on the number of bots and the RDS license current state, restart might be required at this stage.

  4. Wait until the installation is finished and click Finish. To launch RPA Express, click on the RPA Express icon on your desktop.

Starting from RPA Express 2.3.0, no tray menu is available. If you click on the RPA Express icon in the tray menu, it redirects you to the Components section of this user guide.

Once RPA Express is installed, you can modify some core features with no need to reinstall. For more details, refer to How to Modify RPA Express.

 Installation Procedure for RPA Express 2.2.3 and earlier

The information on the installation procedure below refers to RPA Express 2.2.3 and earlier.

Option 1. Installing Server and Workstation

  1. On the Installation Type screen, select both RPA Express Application Server and RPA Express Workstation, and click Next

  2. Enter the number of bots to be run on Server. To select multiple bots, you need:

    1. Windows Server: 2012, 2012 R2, or 2016

    2. user account created for each additional bot

    3. 2 GB of RAM for each additional bot (refer to System Requirements)

       If the machine has non-server OS, you cannot install more than 1 bot on it.

  3. Enter the default username and password for RPA Express Administrator.

    Pick any username and password at your choice, though observe the following requirements.

    – The username should be 5 to 20 characters long and contain lowercase Latin letters and digits. Special symbols are not allowed.

    – The password should be 8 to 20 characters long and contain Latin letters and digits. Special symbols are not allowed.

    The credentials entered at this step are used to log in to Control Tower, WorkSpace, Platform Monitor, and File Storage.

Option 2. Installing Server

Server installation is only available on Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2, and 2016.

  1. Select RPA Express Application Server and click Next.

  2. Enter the number of bots to be run on Server.

    The number of bots depends on the server resources and the tasks the bots perform (refer to System Requirements). It is recommended to reserve about 2 GB of RAM for each bot.

  3. Enter the default username and password for RPA Express Administrator.

    Pick any username and password at your choice, though observe the following requirements.

    – The username should be 5 to 20 characters long and contain lowercase Latin letters and digits. Special symbols are not allowed.

    – The password should be 8 to 20 characters long and contain Latin letters and digits. Special symbols are not allowed.

    The credentials entered at this step are used to log in to Control Tower, WorkSpace, Platform Monitor, and File Storage.

Option 3. Installing Workstation

  1. Select RPA Express Workstation and click Next.
  2. Enter the hostname or IP address of RPA Express Server. Provide the credentials for Control Tower.

    The username and password entered at this step should match the credentials created on the Server to which the machine connects.

  3. Click Test Connection to verify that the hostname/IP address and Control Tower credentials are correct.

  4. Click Next to proceed.

Finalizing Installation

  4. Wait until the installation is finished.

  5. Click Finish. As soon as the installation is finished, you will see a welcome message.
